- Fact sheet
Name: START – Sustainable Energy Harvesting Systems Based on Innovative Mine Waste Recycling
Program: HORIZON-CL4-2021-RESILIENCE-01
Budget: EUR 9 194 441
Duration: 01/06/2022- 31/05/2026 - About the project
The START project is totally aligned with the Green Deal objectives as it proposes a unique technological solution, well beyond the state of the art: collect waste sulphides of the tetrahedrite series ((Cu,Fe)12Sb4S13) from deactivated mine dumps/tailing and current mining waste flows within EU to produce optimized p-type thermoelements for common thermoelectric (TE) generators able to harvest waste heat. This concept represents a major opportunity to increase resource productivity and to decrease resource dependence and waste in line with the new Circular Economy Action Plan.
- Our role in the project
LPRC leads WP7 and elaborate the technological exploitation strategy and a business case on the base of the defined scenarios in WP7. With the leadership of LPRC, all consortium members will work to exploit the technological potential of the adaptable mineral-derived value chain for novel TE devices based on raw materials that are readily available in Europe.
